[ it doesn't take long-- he picks up coffee and then teleports directly to the indicated room in a shower of blue sparks, dressed casually in one of older loki's shirts and a pair of skinny jeans. he offers the older man a small smile and then lifts a large paper cup. ]
I wasn't sure what to get you, so I just got it black. [ he figures stephen probably has sugar or cream or whatever else he takes already here. ] --This place reminds me of the Sanctum, a little.
[ He'll take it exactly as it comes, gratefully accepting the cup with a nod of gratitude and raising it slightly in acknowledgement and thanks. ]
Full of antiques and prone to leaking magic? I can see the resemblance. [ A mild smirk - the dryness in his tone is at his own expense, not Billy's. ] Are you a frequent visitor?
[ To the Sanctum. It's as light as the situation allows, conversational. This is as good a way as any to exchange information about their places in their respective worlds before getting down to business. ]
[ he shakes his head, taking a sip of his own coffee as he takes in the room around them. ] Mm, no, not really. I've been in it a time or two, but I haven't had much reason to overall.
[ his glance meets stephen's then, and he smiles a little crookedly. ] Usually when we see one another, it's in the middle of some kind of emergency where a bunch of magic people have to fix something.
[ he hesitates, then removes a dust sheet from one of the more innocent chairs in the room, dropping it to the side and settling in it, crossing his thighs. ] I think we should be able to work together pretty well, though. I think you know the version of my mom here.. Wanda Maximoff? My magic is similar to hers.
[ Some kind of emergency. Ha. That checks out, and the mild resigned answering smile says as much. Still, onward to Wanda, and the reminder and confirmation of who he is in relation to her.
Something crosses his expression briefly, a complication of pinched brows and tightened mouth that he schools away before it can form into anything easily readable. He nods instead - answer and agreement. ]
I take it your magic is inherent to you?
[ It's a different well of power to Stephen's - he has nothing innate that any other person in the street doesn't have, fate's apparent plans for him and his bullheadedness (and perhaps a few other traits...) aside, but Billy's power is in some way inherited. Enough to have familial ties. Hereditary? Understanding its roots may not be necessary to getting this done, but he's intrigued all the same. ]
Yeah. It's.. sort of complicated, actually, I guess. I'm a reality-warper, too, so my magic may come from my mother, or I may have given it to myself unknowingly, when I thought that's probably what it was. And it ties in with my reality-warping, anyway, so they're barely distinguishable from one another by now.
[ he winces, then takes a sip of his coffee, a shoulder rolling in a shrug. ]
I've been studying various magic practices for a couple of years now, mostly to make it easier for others to work with me, but it helps to give myself rules to use, too. [ given what he can do, self-imposed limits are better than no limits. ]
[ A reality-warper. Isn't that fun. Stephen takes a pointed sip of his coffee too, giving that a moment to sink in and settle. ]
I don't know if your universe's Strange operates in the same way but I wield only magic that can be learned. I don't have my own wellspring, I manipulate whatever's on hand, so provided you can interact with universal energy I don't see there being any issue with our collaboration.
[ He has a sense that the reality is he's somewhat obsolete here, but if Billy's keeping himself confined to rules then there's no reason to force him off that track when they're perfectly capable of working together. ]
[ only, strange says, as if he isn't the sorcerer supreme and one of the most powerful magic-wielders in, like, the multiverse. but maybe this one is before all that and still early in his career, billy couldn't say without a deeper conversation. ]
That should be fine, I can usually adapt. I don't really have a lot of experience with demons, yet, or whatever this thing is, but I can follow your lead on it.
[ he glances down at his cup, brushing his thumb absently over the edge of the lid, mouth quirking up. ] Loki says-- [ a pause, brief, realizing he now has to clarify. ] Er. My Loki, not the little one or the new one. He says you're funnier than our Dr. Strange. He seems to like you more, too. He mentioned a magic.. not-a-guild.. that you're making?

[ If Loki tries to create a whole new guild, he's on his own with the paperwork.
The reported compliments go silently acknowledged, tucked away for later. ]
Are you a member of our merry band yet?
[ There's a distinctly wry edge to merry band, despite his intonation barely deviating. ]
