maybe more than a friend. family, really, both in that false world and in this one. stephen strange has been filling a father figure role in her life for almost a year now, and so giving a gift is hardly something she has to think about.
she finds him at a cafe, as agreed, sitting under an awning at an outdoor table, a cup of something hot in front of him and an expression (for once) not of total agitation. he looks calm. she's happy to see it. ]

[ a familiar tease, but with some fondness in it now. dad doesn't feel so strange anymore. ]
[ It's been a wild couple of weeks. All told, life after death comes to him as a kind of clean slate. His thoughts are muddied occasionally by memories of another life lived, his dreams odd with overlaps across multiple realities, but he sleeps. He sleeps well, some nights. It leaves him with a mind that no longer needs wrestling into stillness.
They agree to meet and Stephen leaves early to take the commute at his leisure. Arrives early too, early enough that he sees her coming and meets her greeting with a smirk that lacks the usual need for sharp corners. ]
You're— [ obvious pause to check the time on his implant, clearly setting up for "late", ] — almost exactly on time.
[ A couple minutes early, in fact. It's a return tease rounded off with the same affection by ending at his own expense. He stands. ]
[ isn't it strange how no major crises means daisy isn't running late all the time, breathless at every junction as she tries to balance a thousand plates? this sliver of calm is almost ominous in its serenity, but she's taking advantage as best she can. ]
