The Displaced still need something lucrative. A way to churn out credits so that we can support ourselves. I know that starting a business isn't always a surefire way to make it happen, but I believe we can also use it as a means of helping our tarnished reputations. We can probably save costs by having Displaced help us out for any maintenance, which will help is in the long term. And any newcomers who need a job can get one with us.
Which is to say, I'd like to take up Markus' spot as your partner with the bar. We need to move forward on that.
[ It's an easy decision, doesn't even need thinking about. The logistics are slightly trickier, and more sad to consider in the straightforward way he's about to have to. ]
We'll need to figure out what Markus' status is legally and give fair grounds to change his name out for yours on the documents. We should talk to El to see if there's a way to bypass the legal roadblocks and fast track that. If not, we'll need to go through official channels.
[ It's a tough thing to think about, removing him like that, the possibility of a legal need to render him a missing person when he may reappear in a week, a month, five. But he is missing, and there's a chance he's already been reported as such by his job, natives to the world who knew him - though nobody's contacted Stephen to question the business partner, so he's assuming it's yet to become a police matter. Whatever it takes though, it's crucial that they have at least two present names on the business in the event that one or other of them disappears again. This is exactly why he and Markus were working together, why it was always both of them to put their names to the documents. It's not an element they can overlook. ]
That's important, but it's background. We can go ahead with the practical as soon as you're ready to start.
[ Stephen's still living out of the bar's safehouse, abandoned project above full of reminders of a friend who's gone now, a shared vision. A lot has changed since they sought to start and it's yet to get off the ground, but it's never been allowed to gather dust.
If Clarke's happy to finally turn the lights on, Stephen's ready to man the bar. ]
[It's what she said she'd do. Now that Markus is gone, Clarke is all too aware of how she relied on him. He was a crutch. Not in a bad way, not in a way where she'll be hard on herself, but he helped her take a lot of the pressure off herself. She could be her worst, her most erratic, her most difficult, and she would never have to make decisions for the group.]
I'm ready now. And I think we should bring the rest to the group. Let them know that we need more hands on this to speed it up. To make it as lucrative as possible.
Do you want to handle the El end of things? You're more familiar with it.
Yeah. I'll handle the legal, let you know when we need you for the dotted line.
[ Digital as that dotted line may be. Mostly, he'd raised it to put feelers out for areas of discomfort, to see if she had anything to say about the finality of replacement. The coast seems to be clear, he'll go ahead. ]
We'll need to make it clear that it'll be volunteer work to start out. The place is on the border of ready to go: we need advertising, staffing, and we'll start paying as soon as we can. It needs a name too, though ideally we won't put that down to a public vote.
[ He and Markus never quite pinned that one down, worked on everything else first. But he'd rather not offer that up to the group. He's seen too many gag reports on naming contests gone wrong. ]
[ Oh, that's a good thought. Stephen takes a second to skim through the frankly alarming selection of sporting facts his tendency to store visual information has gathered for him over the years: Lions, Tigers, Pistons and... ]
Red Wings is the name of their hockey team. Their logo isn't so bad either if we want something eye catching for the sign. I doubt the copyright's carried over.
It's probably easy to get things that revolve around the color red, too. We don't need to use the same logo. Markus might not be around, but I'm an artist myself. I can mock something up that'll work in neon.
[Hopefully, one of this world's corporations wasn't Little Caesar's in a past life and is holding on to the copyright.]

unseen, Stephen smiles. ]
No. So to what do I owe the pleasure?

Some people apparently keep links to them in their Cooltalk profiles. Have you noticed?
[This is off the track, but ... well. Clarke has noticed.]

Moodboards? It's nice to see traditional artforms surviving the centuries.
