As it stands, my own schedule is relatively flexible. My priorities would be keeping the newcomers safe and to have them settled as soon as possible; I won’t need to be rotated out, not in the foreseeable future.

[Just so Stephen is aware that he is committed to this transition; that he’s not going to leave everyone twisting in the wind after all is said and done.]

We would run it by these people, of course, but I have a feeling they’d all be willing to lend their aid. I can’t completely speak for Connor— [EXCEPT HE’S GOING TO] —but I know that he’s often eager to help. His interests usually align with mine.

[Add it to a growing list of things to take care of. They’ve only just begun, and Markus wishes that he still possessed an android’s mind to keep all the details in line, all the priorities queued up neatly to be referenced later.

A beat.]

Hafid, though; I know this a small sticking point in the overall bigger picture, but he’s the one who suggested we keep the newcomers segregated from the rest. Do you still think he’d be an unbiased choice?

[Stephen’s quite right — interlinked is one word for it. There are a multitude of others that might apply, but anyone with eyes can see that the two of them are connected in some way. But maybe that's neither here nor there, and if it isn’t thrown into question, Markus has no need or reason to explain it.

And the other man is right about something else; regarding the separation issue, he is politely ignoring it. Or rather, stepping around it as if it were bramble to be carefully navigated around — not to be thrown face-first into, much like what Hafid and Connor had displayed for the rest of the network to see.]

You argued in favor, but you kept a straight head. [That was a glaring difference.] But maybe making an assessment of Hafid’s character so quickly is unfair for me to do, especially since irritation is a… two way street.

[One doesn’t just argue with oneself, after all.]

So I’ll take your word for it. It might help some of his anxieties about the potential dangers of the new arrivals if he can be there to supervise each new wave.

[Subject wrapped for now, but putting momentum behind making things happen is often the part that many struggle with. Logistics are easy to talk about, harder to put into motion, but there's no point in getting themselves stuck on the smaller details today, when this conversation is meant to work in broad strokes.]

It's a shared responsibility. I'll help, even if the decision was originally your call.

[The clarification is essential -- no one has to tackle any problem alone. Markus, ever the man focused on solidarity.

But now, they move on. Next subject is of priority interest, anyhow.]

I can't speak for anyone's schedules, but I know of those who will be more than willing to help. It's just in their nature. Two young men, Noctis and Prompto. And Keith, he showed interest in getting suggestions through the door, regarding just how to set up this safehouse. I think we can expect for him to be just as involved as the rest of us.
